son of a... gun

sunday surpassed the required three day waiting period, for the state of illinois to allow me to pick up my browning buckmark .22. unfortunately, it was already 4:00pm and the range was closing in thirty minutes, so instead danny and i went to eat a late lunch at chili's in barrington. we spent some time discussing the events of our respective weekends, and from what it sounds like, we both had joyous memories. until dan gets his own blog, or decides to guest blog here, you will have to ask him about his own festivities.

david wanted to shoot today, but given the weekend's events, danny and i just weren't able to make it at a decent hour. so instead, we met up with david at the streets of woodfield amc, where we watched live free or die hard. during the previews, dan and i noticed that every trailer featured a gun. it was very amusing.

live free or die hard: A.
bruce willis is a fucking genius. nevermind that he plays the same role in almost every film. same with justin long, the mac guy. although he is always plays the same geeky protagonist that we always root for, it never gets old. chuck made a comment that he likes long more than shia labeouf... for me, that's a tough call. i'm a fan of both.
as far as the direction... len wiseman did both of the underworld films, which used quite a bit of digital effects and action, so his undertakings in this film were flawless. the action was absolutely superfluous (as david might say), but absolutely outstanding. i wasn't bored with long dialogue or slow moments. it was definitely a fast paced 2 hours.
one final thing of note... the plot. i liked it! sometimes you get those action films with the regurgitated story lines from 10 years ago, or the one's that are so bullshit that you can't even enjoy the film because you keep picking the holes apart. this plot was fresh and really kept me antsy to see how it would end. my only question throughout the film was if he would utter the famous, "yippie-kai-yay, motherfucker!" and i wasn't disappointed.
this is a very close second to transformers, on my best of summer film list.

after the film we ate at big bowl, the worst fake chinese/thai restaurant in the world. panda express sells better fake chinese, and why in the hell would you want fake thai? don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but it was way too overpriced for fake food. find a better option in the phone book.

the night ended with us talking for 3 hours about relationships and our friend's relationships. wow. a lot of interesting observations and conclusions. we think way too much.
