movie in the park
every couple weeks during the summer, there's a free movie playing in grant park. yesterday it was the 1944 film-noir classic, double indemnity, starring fred macmurray and barbara stanwyck. upon further research, i found out that this film was nominated for 7 academy awards, including best picture, director, actress, cinematography, and screenplay. after watching the film, screenplay stands out the most. the dialogue is written like poetry, with a wit that is incomparable to the writing of today. it also has an above average plot-line, that keeps the audience anticipating every subsequent scene.
danny and i brought some cider beers to drink on ice. roy, al, jim, and phuc brought a shit-load of snacks, including brie, bread, honey-roasted peanuts, and some sort of lunch-meat wraps. we sectioned off a little nook by the path, and while we didn't have the most unobstructed view, it didn't take away from our enjoyment of the atmosphere. the crowd was great with no distracting murmuring and just the right amount of laughter during humorous moments, so as to not overpower the sound. it was a really enjoyable time, and i recommend you attend the next show. at the very least, check out double indemnity... the dialogue alone, is enough to entertain and amuse.
double indemnity (1944): A. go out and rent it!
on the way home, danny and i stopped somewhere we shouldn't have. all i'll say is this... at one point, we were down to $3 each. somehow, i came back to even which was two bills, and danny came up to $165 over his initial buy in, which we won't talk about.
