black friday
holy shit. i've been through two black fridays with express and i never thought i'd ever go through another one. but i did today, and oooo... what a doozy. i can't really explain this, but it was a fast, yet long day. it was a lot of fun, and it was good to get out there and work the floor.
if you read chris's blog on thursday, then you would've known that he made a surprise trip back to the states to surprise his family for thanksgiving. as soon as i read this, i commented that he should visit me at work... and he did, along with kristine. yay!
i believe that i was talking to a customer when kristine jabbed me in the arm from behind. i thought it was a co-worker, until i saw her guilty smile as she walked around the store. i ended up meeting with them for a quick lunch at the nordstrom cafe for a little sit down meal. we caught up a little bit, but i had to get back to work...
meanwhile, it was ryan m.'s last day, so the plan was to meet up at stonewood ale house for a little farewell celebration. problem was, i got out at 5:00pm and everyone else was getting out at 9:00pm. so to kill time, i headed over to this korean restaurant that i've never been to.
san korean restaurant is buried deep in the corner of a shitty strip mall with half the units unrented. it's almost impossible to see from the road, and even when you drive up to it, it's still kind of hard to tell that it's a restaurant. the reviews have said that this is not the place to go if you don't speak korean, but i disagree. the staff was very pleasant and i was able to communicate just fine.
i ordered dolsot bibimbap and it was delicious, but i wish they gave more beef with it. i didn't eat anything else, but the menu had a pretty decent selection of dishes that i've eaten before... all the classics, plus some things i've never seen before. they also have karaoke rooms for private parties, and they're open until 2:00am. nice.
by the time i was done with dinner, i still had about 2 hours to kill, so i decided to hop it over to the amc at the streets of woodfield. i watched hitman (review to follow) for 2 hours and then headed to stonewood ale house.
at stonewood, i met up with adam, dan, josh, andy, brandon, sarah, ryan, joni, chris, and armando. thankfully, we didn't talk too much about work, and pretty much focused on toasting ryan's leaving. a bunch of ryan's girl friends showed up, and somehow, brandon got egged on to go talk to them. wow, usually that kind of shit happens to me when i'm with my crew mates. i'm glad they weren't there. so we pretty much had some good laughs and told good stories and wished ryan the best. i left at about 1:30am so that i could be at work by 9:00am the next day.
ryan will be missed, but he will live on forever in my memory as the guy who came up with the phrase, "trolling for dick". i'm laughing right now, just thinking about it. it's really strange and really descriptive and it's something that i'll be saying for a very long time. thanks ryan.
