lazy as shit saturday
brunch and shopping
it started out easy enough... meet up at danny's at 2:00pm, where danielle and katie spent the night. eat a late brunch over at richard walker's in crystal lake, consisting of lots of pancakes, bacon, ham, chocolate chips, and some kona coffee.
from there, an impromptu stop to target, right next door, where katie and danielle proceed to shop for housewares. danny and i roamed the store like a bunch of shoplifters, meal-tired from all the pancakes in our systems. i was feeling claustrophobic in there and had to bail outside for a smoke break. that's when it began to pour.
it was just turning 6:00pm when we left the target parking lot, heading east again, toward the regal showplace 16, to see superbad. the show didn't start until 7:15pm, so we spent some time playing video games. wow. i felt like a kid for a little bit, clutching my tokens like they were made of real gold. i also drank too much fucking cherry coke, so i felt like shit. just like a kid.
superbad
i think most people would agree with me when i say that this movie fell short of expectations. make no mistake, it was funny. the humor was decent, definitely from the mind of seth rogan. but we've seen similar stories before: two nerdy/dorky seniors looking for sex and/or love (american pie), with a quirky friend that the audience empathizes with (dj qualls in road trip). quirky friend uses fake id in liquor store (dazed and confused). then comes a crazy sequence of surreal events (harold and kumar go to white castle). i found out that seth rogan and evan goldberg began writing this screenplay when they were thirteen... i guess that explains a lot.
i still enjoyed it, and will probably buy the dvd with the deleted/extended scenes. it will be marketed as an unrated version, even though it was pretty explicit in its original form... specifically the extensive application of dick humor. also, the soundtrack/score was great, featuring the composition of lyle workman and the expertise of funk legend, bootsy collins. also, i think that emma stone is hot.
superbad: B-
watch it now, and then buy the dvd.
bleeding ears
right around 10:30pm, we went to the crystal lake village squire, again, just a little more east. we ate a bunch of shit that we shouldn't have, but was delicious. the ambience of this place was horrible. the decor was okay, feeling like something out of "robin hood". but the really horrible shit, was that there was a live two-man band, doing old school rock covers. now, i like classic rock just as much as the next guy, but these two sounded like absolute shit. they didn't stop from the moment we got in, to the moment we left. evil.
i think i got home around 12:30am... early night. but would you believe it, i was exhausted like i had just drank a case of beer and ran a marathon. so much for being lazy as shit.
