vegas day one recap

nothing crazy on day one. danny and i arrived around 4:00pm. we went to check in at our free room at excalibur, until we realized that we were staying at the flamingo. as it turns out, the flamingo has beautiful new rooms, all decked out with a huge flat panel and remote controlled curtains. pretty good for a free room (video to follow).
we then took a tour of the north side of the strip, a set of casinos and hotels that i wouldn't be caught dead staying at. we took the monorail from harrah's to the sahara. we picked up some player cards, played some quick craps, and walked over to circus circus.
at c2, we noticed that all the workers looked like absolute death, especially in the midway, where all the carnival and video games are located. it was like 10:00pm at this point, with no kids around, and these poor bastards had to sit there, trying to get adults to throw bean bags at milk bottles, waiting for their shifts to end. we caught the free trapeze act on the second floor. it was pretty weak, but it made us laugh pretty good.
we crossed the street and walked to the riviera. craps tables were 10 dollars, too rich for our blood, so we quickly left. but not before we noticed some girl dressed in a school girl outfit, playing blackjack. it was trashy, but interesting, and somehow, it will be the only memory that i will take away from visiting the riviera. we were there for less than 5 minutes and we took a walk to the hilton.
we finished out the night hitting up the craps tables at the hilton. nothing spectacular. one thing of note... one of the attractions at the hilton is the star trek experience. there's a whole gaddamn section of the casino floor dedicated to star trek slots, poker machines, and all sorts of memorabilia. i think there's a ride there too, but it was like 2:00am at this point, so we didn't really explore. but i wondered... how bad are your numbers doing, that you resort to star trek to draw some attendance?

at work today, when she left, she dropped me her chocolate smoothie and i drank it. i don't remember if i got the chance to say thank you.
