auf wiedersehen
i wanted to post this on the board at express... but after being gone so long, i realized that now just isn't the time for me to go back there. here's the so long, farewell speech...
To my express family –
Another chapter in my life is complete. One year and nine months ago, I began at Express probably much like you did… looking for a part-time job where I could have some fun, meet some people and maybe buy a few clothes. Little did I know that it would become so much more.
I did buy clothes… shit loads. 1MX shirts in every imaginable color, denim in all 3 fits, and enough polos to clothe a small African country. I even had Aymeei as my addiction consultant, approving various colors and styles based on my known wardrobe. I would've been better had it not been for the damn Express Card people constantly increasing my limit.
I've met a lot of people… from our regular customers with never-ending exchanges to the associates who've quit after one overnight floorset. There were so many associates and customers that I've enjoyed working with (and not enjoyed working with), that I've seen only once or a hundred times. I've also met some people who have become friends that I will never lose touch with.
But above all else, I will leave this place with memories that I will never forget…
the doily lady . nights at houlihan's . the brian dance . russian paris hilton . overnight floorsets . thievery . the hanger game (in which anna & katelyn are tied for champion) . be a nina . whaaaaat! . coaching . smoke breaks . saying poo . taking out garbage in the rain/snow/sun . corny jokes . the Q dance . flirting with customers . sensors going off . manager meetings . calm the f**k down . hanger toss . inventory disasters . various incompetent delivery people . let's keep it professional . brand meetings . uh-huh . NCNS . voids for forgetting gift receipts . gypsies . meetings in 'the office' . damn gina . the fedex guy/girl/person . orientations . potlucks on black fridays . conversion busters . hugs and kisses hugs and kisses, i love you! . beans on hot sheets . interviews . team selling anything . someone has shit in and around the premium denim area . creepers . unfulfilled houlihan's dessert promises . walkies falling off and ripping ears out . leaning on the wrap desk . thinking of a different way to emphasize conversion/card/pants every freaking day . lunch breaks at lily garden . voicemails . hiring almost one hundred associates . hey, go hit on that girl/guy . what are you saying?!? . stopping shoplifters . and making people laugh and smile as much as possible, in every way imaginable .
and really, that's what meant the most to me… being able to share 40+ hours a week, working hard (mostly) and making sure everyone had fun while doing so. i hope i was able to make you smile and laugh, and maybe leave you with a memory you'll never forget…
see you around.
